Kiematubu cone
The volcano occupies nearly the whole island. On the poster its slopes remain largely blank, forming a strong centre surrounded by the road and the villages.

La mappa
Tidore Island Map Poster & Print
Tidore lies in North Maluku, Indonesia, just south of Ternate across a narrow strait. The island is almost entirely made up of one volcano, Kiematubu, whose summit rises high above the sea. From above, the shape is nearly round, with steep upper slopes left empty and a single coastal road running through a chain of villages close to the water's edge.
Tidore was once the seat of a powerful sultanate and one of the famous Spice Islands, where cloves drew Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch traders in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Its long rivalry with neighbouring Ternate shaped the politics of the region. The sultanate still exists in a ceremonial form, and the palace area lies on the east coast.
A Tidore Island map poster pairs a simple outline with a steady band of detail around the coast. The cone remains open at the centre, and the ring of settlement forms a necklace of streets. It is a quiet, symmetrical image with considerable history behind it, well suited to anyone connected to the Moluccas.

Coastal ring
A road circles the island close to the shore, linking settlements in an almost unbroken line. It gives the map a clear ring of detail around the open interior.
Ternate strait
A narrow stretch of water separates Tidore from Ternate to the north. The crossing has both linked and divided the two old sultanates for centuries.
