La mappa

Tomsk Map Poster & Print

Tomsk stands on the right bank of the Tom River, a short distance upstream from where it joins the Ob, in western Siberia. On a map the city follows the river from north to south, with the older districts close to the water and newer neighbourhoods spreading onto higher ground to the east. The small Ushayka River flows through the centre to join the Tom.

Founded in 1604, Tomsk is one of the oldest cities in Siberia. When the Trans-Siberian Railway was routed further south, the city was left off the main line, which helped preserve much of its historic core, including many carved wooden houses. Streets in the centre follow hills and ravines, a pattern more irregular than in most Russian cities.

Tomsk is known above all as a university city. Tomsk State University, founded in 1878, was the first university in Siberia, and its wooded grove remains a green space near the centre. A Tomsk map poster shows the river, the bridges, the old hill districts and the orderly outer blocks, giving the city's academic and wooden heritage a clear graphic form.

Tom River

The broad river runs along the western edge of the city, crossed by a few bridges, giving the map a strong natural boundary and a sense of scale.

02

Ushayka valley

The small river winds through the centre, separating historic districts and adding curves to the otherwise structured street network.

03

University grove

The wooded grounds of Tomsk State University form a clear open space near the centre, framed by the formal academic buildings around them.

Perché Tomsk

Una mappa che ha un significato

Many people come to Tomsk to study and stay far longer than planned, or leave with vivid memories of lecture halls, wooden houses and long winters. A map of the city is a natural way to mark those years.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a faculty, a graduation year or a street name. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download HD files for $9 or order a printed matte poster.
