La mappa
Torrance Map Poster & Print
Torrance is in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County, between the Pacific coast and the Harbor Freeway corridor. Most of the city is a flat, wide grid of residential blocks and arterial boulevards. At its southwestern edge, the pattern breaks against the rising ground of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and a short strip of shoreline along Torrance Beach.
The city was founded in the early twentieth century as a planned industrial town. Its original downtown was laid out by the Olmsted Brothers landscape firm. Later it became a centre for aerospace and automotive companies, and several Japanese carmakers based their American operations there. The Del Amo Fashion Center, one of the largest shopping malls in the United States, occupies a large block near the middle of the city.
A Torrance map poster shows how steadily the grid covers the land, with large blocks marking the airport, the refinery and the mall. The regular street pattern gives way to the curving roads of the hills in the south. The coastline adds a clean edge in the west, where the city meets Santa Monica Bay.

Torrance Beach
A short stretch of shoreline on Santa Monica Bay gives the city a western edge, with the Palos Verdes bluffs rising just to the south.
Large industrial blocks
The municipal airport, the refinery and the Del Amo mall form big solid shapes within the grid, breaking up the rhythm of residential streets.

Perché Torrance
Una mappa che ha un significato
Torrance is where many South Bay families have settled and many people have started careers. A poster of its streets, from the beach to the hills, is a personal alternative to generic Los Angeles imagery.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example with the street where you grew up or the year you moved in. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit your space.
