Vel and Vaga confluence
The two rivers meet near the town, and their curving channels, meanders and floodplain give the map its most striking natural shapes.

La mappa
Vel’sk Map Poster & Print
Vel’sk lies in the south of Arkhangelsk Oblast, where the Vel river flows into the larger Vaga. It is one of the older towns of the Russian North, first mentioned in the twelfth century, and it grew as a trading settlement on the river routes through the forests.
From above, the rivers shape everything. The town spreads along their banks, with a simple pattern of streets in the centre and more scattered housing toward the edges. The Vaga bends broadly through the landscape, and floodplain meadows and forest fill the space around the built-up area.
The railway between Moscow and Arkhangelsk passes through the town, adding a long straight line to the soft curves of the rivers. A Vel’sk map poster brings together these elements: water, rail and quiet streets set in the vast northern forest.

Northern railway line
The railway crosses the area in a long, steady line, connecting Vel’sk to Moscow and Arkhangelsk and forming a strong contrast to the rivers.
Forest surroundings
Beyond the town, forest and meadow stretch out, leaving wide calm areas on the map with only scattered roads and tracks crossing them.
