La mappa
Vīrarāghavapuram Map Poster & Print
Vīrarāghavapuram lies on the western side of the Chennai metropolitan area in Tamil Nadu, where the city gradually meets the surrounding countryside. The land is flat and low, and on a map the area shows a mix of older settlement clusters, newer residential layouts in regular rows, and open plots still waiting to be built upon.
Like much of western Chennai, the landscape here is shaped by water. Traditional irrigation tanks, known locally as eris, are spread across the region, and they appear on maps as rounded open spaces between neighbourhoods. The steady growth of the city has brought new roads and housing into this belt, changing its outline year by year.
A Vīrarāghavapuram map poster records the area as it stands now: the grids of recent layouts, the winding lanes of older cores, the main roads leading toward the city and the water bodies in between. In black and white, the patchwork of planned and organic streets makes a detailed, surprisingly rich composition.

Water tanks
Rounded tanks and reservoirs in the wider area show up as open shapes on the map, remnants of a long tradition of rain-fed irrigation.
Roads toward the city
Main roads run east toward central Chennai, the lines along which much of the area's recent growth has taken place.
