Orderly central grid
Wide, straight streets divide the centre into large rectangular blocks, a layout typical of planned northern Chinese cities and very legible on paper.

La mappa
Wafangdian Map Poster & Print
Wafangdian is a county-level city administered by Dalian, lying on the Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning province. On a map the urban core forms a compact grid of wide streets and large blocks, surrounded by farmland and low hills. Railway lines and highways run north to south through the area, linking it with Dalian at the peninsula's tip and with Shenyang further inland.
The city is best known in China for its bearing industry. The Wafangdian Bearing company, often abbreviated ZWZ, is one of the country's long-established bearing manufacturers, and much of the city's development grew around it. The wider county area also reaches the coast of the Bohai Sea, though the main urban area sits inland.
A Wafangdian map poster shows a practical, orderly city: straight roads, factory compounds, residential estates in regular rows and the lines of transport corridors passing through. Reduced to black and white, the regularity becomes a kind of pattern in its own right, a clean record of a northern Chinese industrial town and the countryside that surrounds it.
