Wallenhorst lies just north of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony. Rather than one centre, it has several: the municipality was formed from a group of former villages, and on the map they still read as distinct clusters of streets. Farmland, woodland and gentle hills lie between them.
The result is a green, spread-out town with a strong link to Osnabrück, whose northern suburbs begin just to the south. Main roads run between the villages and toward the city, and quieter residential streets branch off into cul-de-sacs and small estates.
