Town square
The historic square sits at the centre of the grid, surrounded by the old commercial blocks. On the poster it forms a clear focal point from which the streets extend.

La mappa
Washington Map Poster & Print
Washington is a city in Tazewell County, Illinois, a few miles east of Peoria and the Illinois River. The land here is flat to gently rolling prairie, and the town's streets follow a largely regular grid. At the centre is a traditional town square, around which the older commercial blocks are arranged, while newer subdivisions with curving streets spread out toward the fields.
On 17 November 2013, a powerful EF4 tornado crossed the city, destroying or damaging over a thousand homes. Many neighbourhoods have since been rebuilt, and the town's recovery is part of its recent identity. The map shows a city that has kept its old centre and grid while filling in the damaged areas.
A Washington map poster brings together the classic Midwestern layout: a square at the centre, regular blocks around it and the looser loops of later housing at the edges, all surrounded by the straight section lines of farmland. It is a well-ordered image that feels very American.

Street grid
Much of the town follows a regular grid of streets. Its even rhythm gives the map structure and contrasts with the curving subdivisions at the edges.
Prairie section lines
Farmland around the town is divided by straight country roads on the survey grid. They extend the town's geometry into the surrounding landscape on the poster.

Perché Washington
Una mappa che ha un significato
For many residents Washington means a home rebuilt after 2013, a first house near the square or a family that has lived here for generations. A map keeps that sense of place in view every day.
Add a family name, the year you moved in or a rebuild date in the title and subtitle, and keep the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
