River valley
The town runs along a river, and its roads follow the bends. On the poster the water adds a soft, curving line through the centre.

La mappa
Wenquan Map Poster & Print
Wenquan lies in eastern Inner Mongolia, in the hill country of the Greater Khingan range not far from the border with Mongolia. The name means hot spring in Chinese, and this part of the range is known for its mineral springs. From above, the town follows a river valley, with streets strung along the valley floor rather than spread in a wide grid.
The surroundings give the map its character. Forest and low mountains press in from both sides, leaving long, narrow bands of flat land for roads, housing and a railway. Winters here are long and cold. The settlement pattern is that of a place that grew in a sheltered valley rather than on open steppe.
A Wenquan map poster keeps the composition simple: a thread of streets and water running through a wide field of open terrain. In black and white, the town becomes a slender, organic shape. It looks very different from the gridded cities of the plains and makes a striking but quiet piece on a wall.

Linear town
Instead of a compact block, the streets stretch lengthwise along the valley floor. This gives the map an elongated, flowing shape that suits vertical formats.
Wooded hills
Forested slopes surround the valley. On the map they stay as open space, framing the settlement and showing how closely it follows the terrain.

Perché Wenquan
Una mappa che ha un significato
Travellers who came for the springs and forests of the Greater Khingan, and people with roots in the region, get a clean reminder of a remote, quiet landscape. The narrow shape looks especially good in the tall 50×70 cm or 24×36″ formats.
You can change the title, add a subtitle and a date, and choose between five styles, including the dark Noir and the technical Blueprint. A free 900 px preview shows the result before you commit.
