Right-angled street grid
The centre is built on a regular grid of wide avenues and large blocks, giving the poster a calm, even texture with few diagonals or curves to interrupt it.

La mappa
Wujiaqu Map Poster & Print
Wujiaqu sits on the flat farmland north of Urumqi, where the Tian Shan foothills give way to the Junggar Basin. From above, it looks like a place laid out with a ruler. Main roads meet at right angles, blocks are wide and regular, and the edge of town runs straight into fields cut by irrigation channels and shelterbelts of trees.
The city is administered by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, which reclaimed this land for farming in the second half of the twentieth century. Its name translates roughly as the canal of five families, after a waterway dug by early settlers. Canals still organise the landscape and show on the map as long, thin lines running through and around the grid.
A Wujiaqu map poster shows that planned logic very clearly. With colour removed, the drawing becomes almost a diagram: a dense core of equal blocks, a few longer avenues leading out, and then a quieter field pattern that keeps the same geometry. It reads well at every size because its structure is so direct.

Irrigation canals
Thin, straight channels carry water across the plain. On the map they read as fine ruled lines, a reminder that the town started as an agricultural settlement.
Field pattern beyond
Past the built-up edge, roads and tree belts divide the farmland into long rectangles, so the grid of the town continues outward at a larger scale.

Perché Wujiaqu
Una mappa che ha un significato
Some people choose Wujiaqu because they grew up or worked here. Others like how cleanly a planned town reads on paper, with order and open space in balance. Either way, it makes a quiet, graphic piece for a study or hallway.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or the year you arrived. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the grid especially well.
