La mappa
Xilin Hot Map Poster & Print
Xilin Hot is the administrative seat of Xilingol League in central Inner Mongolia, and its map looks like a planned town placed on an enormous open steppe. The streets are broad and mostly straight, the blocks are generous, and the city's edges meet grassland with little in between. Few cities show so plainly how a street grid looks when no hills or coastlines bend it.
The Xilin River passes near the town and shares its name with both the city and the surrounding league. In the older part of the city stands Beizi Temple, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery on a low hill that predates most of the modern town. Around it the grid briefly gives way to more irregular paths and courtyards.
A Xilin Hot map poster suits anyone drawn to the grasslands of northern China: herding families who moved into town, travellers who came for the summer Naadam festivities, and people who worked on the region's coal and wind projects. On paper, the city's clean geometry sits against large areas of white, and that contrast is what makes it striking.

Beizi Temple hill
The temple complex on its hill forms a small cluster of curving paths and courtyards, a clear break from the straight lines that surround it.
Steppe edges
Beyond the last blocks the map opens into grassland, crossed only by a few roads and the course of the Xilin River.

Perché Xilin Hot
Una mappa che ha un significato
This is a map for people who remember space: the distance between buildings, the horizon at the end of every avenue, the quiet of the steppe beyond. On a wall, it brings that sense of openness indoors.
