La mappa
Xingfeng Map Poster & Print
Xingfeng lies in eastern Gansu, in the hill country near Tianshui where the Loess Plateau breaks into ridges, gullies and narrow valleys. From above, the town is a small, dense patch of streets set into this deeply eroded terrain, with farmland reaching right up to the edges of the built area and villages scattered across the surrounding slopes.
The landscape here has been shaped over a very long time by wind-blown loess soil and the streams that cut into it, producing a pattern of branching valleys that looks almost like a tree on a map. Roads follow these valley floors wherever possible, so the town's links to the wider region trace the curves of the land rather than straight lines.
A Xingfeng map poster shows a small town in close conversation with its terrain: compact streets, winding roads and a surrounding web of paths and fields. In black and white, the fine texture of rural tracks against the few main roads creates a delicate composition, a rare printed record of a place far from the usual list of famous cities.

Valley roads
Main roads follow the lower ground, bending with the valleys as they connect the town to neighbouring settlements across the hills.
Loess country
Around the town, the map fills with narrow tracks and field edges threading through a landscape of ridges and gullies typical of the Loess Plateau.
