Hillside grid
The central grid is laid out across a steep slope, so its orderly blocks appear pressed against the mountain, with the main plaza at the heart of the pattern.

La mappa
Yarumal Map Poster & Print
Yarumal sits high in the Central Cordillera of Colombia, in northern Antioquia, at well over two thousand metres above sea level. From above, the town is a Spanish-style grid draped across a steep slope, with streets running across and down the mountain and the plaza at its centre. The land falls away sharply beyond the last blocks into forested ravines and pasture.
The town is named after the yarumo, a tree common in the Andes, and its cold, misty climate earned it a reputation as one of the coolest towns in Antioquia. Yarumal is also known internationally in medical research, as extended families in the region have taken part in long-term studies of an inherited form of early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
A Yarumal map poster captures the tension between a regular colonial grid and a mountainous site. The blocks stay orderly, but the roads leaving town immediately break into switchbacks as they climb or descend. It is a striking example of how Andean towns impose straight streets on uneven ground, and it gives the poster a strong, slightly tilted geometry.

Mountain switchbacks
Roads leaving the town twist sharply as they follow the terrain, framing the grid with tangled curves that emphasise its regularity.
Forested ravines
Deep valleys and ravines surround the settlement, leaving wide empty spaces on the poster that underline how high and isolated the town feels.
