Town grid
Wide, straight roads divide the centre into large, regular blocks. This is typical of modern Chinese county towns, and it gives the poster a strong, ordered frame.

La mappa
Zhenping Map Poster & Print
Zhenping is a county-level town in the Nanyang area of southwestern Henan. It lies on the gently tilted floor of the Nanyang basin, where the plain begins to rise toward the Funiu mountains in the north. On the map, the town is a compact, fairly regular grid. It is surrounded by the fine subdivisions of intensively farmed land and dotted with villages.
The town is best known in China for jade. Zhenping has long been a centre of jade carving and trading, and its markets and workshops draw buyers from across the country. That craft sits in contrast with the plain geometry of its streets, where broad roads divide the town into large, orderly blocks.
A Zhenping map poster presents the town as it appears from above: a clear urban core, roads running straight across the plain, and small watercourses cutting through the fields. It is a restrained composition, well suited to someone with ties to the town or to the jade trade that has made its name.

Nanyang basin plain
All around the town the flat basin is divided into small farm plots and villages. On the map these make a fine texture that fades toward the edges.
Northern uplands
To the north the ground starts to rise toward the Funiu mountains. It is a subtle change, but it sets the town on the edge between plain and hills.
