Zhigou is a town in southeastern Shandong, in the hilly country that lies inland from the Yellow Sea coast. The land here rises and falls in low hills and shallow valleys. On a map, the town gathers where the roads meet, and the pattern of streets thins out quickly into terraced and valley farmland.
Like many towns in rural Shandong, Zhigou has a main street with commercial buildings, blocks of newer housing around it, and small village clusters scattered across the countryside.
