Begej waterways
The river and its former channels loop through the city, and on the map they appear as smooth curves that divide the dense street pattern into sections.

La mappa
Zrenjanin Map Poster & Print
Zrenjanin is the largest city in the Serbian part of Banat, in the province of Vojvodina. It stands on the Begej river, a short distance from its meeting with the Tisa, in the flat country of the Pannonian plain. The land is so level that the city spreads evenly in every direction, and on the map it forms a broad, nearly round shape.
The Begej and its old channels have given the city a large number of bridges, and residents sometimes call it a city of bridges. Part of the old river bed in the centre was later closed off, leaving a still stretch of water among the streets. Around it lies a compact historic core of Habsburg-era squares and facades.
Until the mid-twentieth century the town was known as Veliki Bečkerek. It was renamed in honour of Žarko Zrenjanin, a partisan leader of the Second World War. A Zrenjanin map poster shows the waterways and bridges threading through the old centre, surrounded by wide neighbourhoods that give way to the fields of Banat.

City of bridges
Numerous crossings over the Begej and its old beds tie the neighbourhoods together, creating small, repeated connections across the water in the centre of the map.
Open Banat plain
Beyond the edge of the city, straight rural roads and field boundaries stretch across flat farmland, framing the compact urban area with quiet, regular lines.

Perché Zrenjanin
Una mappa che ha un significato
Zrenjanin is the kind of city people describe through its bridges and its river, and a map shows both at once. It is a fitting keepsake for anyone from Banat, or for families who carry the old name Bečkerek in their stories.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a street name, a date or text in Serbian. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint emphasises the waterways, and Paper suits the older centre.
