Abd al Kuri lies at the western end of the Socotra archipelago in the Arabian Sea, between Socotra itself and the Horn of Africa. On a map it forms a long, slender island stretched from east to west, rising to mountain ridges through its central part and falling to plains and sandy shores along the coast.
The island is sparsely inhabited, with small fishing communities along the shore and very few mapped roads. Like the rest of the archipelago, it belongs to the Socotra UNESCO World Heritage site, recognised for plants and animals found nowhere else. Its remoteness means the map is shaped almost entirely by natural features.
