Abruka Map Poster & Print
Abruka is a small island in western Estonia, just south of Kuressaare on Saaremaa. It is low and compact, with a gently rounded coastline and a few islets close offshore. From above there is little to interrupt the shape: a handful of tracks, a small harbour facing the larger island, and a green interior with almost no built-up land.
The island is known for its broadleaf woodland, a rare type of forest for this part of the Baltic and now protected as a nature reserve. Only a small number of people live there year-round, and the island is reached by boat from the Saaremaa coast, which lies close enough to appear at the edge of a wider map.

The small harbour faces north toward Kuressaare, the direction boats arrive from. It is one of the few places where the island's outline is broken by built structures.

Several smaller islets lie close to Abruka in the shallow bay. They add scattered points to the composition and hint at how low this stretch of coast lies.
