Achhnera lies in Agra district, on the flat Gangetic plains between Agra and the Rajasthan border. The town is best known as a railway junction, where lines meet and branch toward different cities. On a map, the tracks are the boldest lines, sweeping in from several directions and dividing the town into sections.
The older part of town is a tight cluster of lanes around the market, with houses packed together. Newer growth spreads out along the roads, with more regular plots. Surrounding it all is agricultural land, a mesh of fields and tracks that stretches in every direction across the plain.
