Ahfir lies in Morocco's Oriental region, on the border with Algeria. It is a short distance inland from the Mediterranean coast near Saïdia. On a map the town is a compact grid pressed against the frontier. The main road runs through it, and neighbourhoods spread out onto the plain and the low ground around it.
Just east of the town, the border follows the course of the Oued Kiss, a small river that runs north to the sea. The low ranges of the Beni Snassen massif rise to the west. Because of this setting, Ahfir's map has a clear edge on one side, a river and a national boundary, while it opens up on the others.
