’Aïn Azel lies in the Sétif province of northeastern Algeria, on the high plateaus that stretch between the Tell Atlas and the Saharan Atlas. The land around it is broad and relatively open, used largely for cereal farming. From above, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by a wide expanse of fields.
Roads leave the town in long, straight lines across the plateau, linking it to Sétif and to neighbouring towns. Within the centre, streets form a fairly regular pattern, while newer districts spread outward along the main routes. Low hills and seasonal watercourses break the landscape in places, adding a few softer lines.
