Akçakoca Map Poster & Print
Akçakoca sits on the western Black Sea coast of Turkey, in Düzce Province, and its map is a long, narrow band. The town follows the shoreline for several kilometres, with the coastal road tying its neighbourhoods together. Behind it the land rises quickly into green hills, cut by small valleys and streams running down to the sea.
On the hills, roads loop and switch back instead of forming a grid, following the contours through hazelnut orchards, the crop the region is known for. Nearer the water the street pattern tightens around the centre and the harbour, and beaches open along the shore in both directions. The result is a long, thin plan drawn by the terrain.
A small headland near town carries the remains of a Genoese castle, a reminder of the medieval trade routes along this coast.
