Sancaktepe Map Poster & Print
Sancaktepe lies on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, several kilometres inland from the Sea of Marmara. It became a district in 2008, formed from areas previously part of neighbouring districts, and its map reflects that recent history: large residential blocks, new roads and housing estates spreading across rolling ground, with older village cores still visible in the pattern.
Toward its edges the urban area gives way to forest and open land, including the wooded hills of the Aydos area, a favourite place for walks and picnics. Samandıra, one of the district's main neighbourhoods, gives its name to an airfield whose long runway remains a clear straight line on the map.
A metro line connects the district with Üsküdar and the Bosphorus, a sign of how quickly this part of Istanbul has grown.
