Aklera is a town in the Jhalawar district of south-eastern Rajasthan, part of the Hadoti region that borders Madhya Pradesh. The landscape here is greener than much of the state, with farmland, seasonal streams and water tanks, and the town appears on a map as a compact centre of narrow lanes surrounded by fields.
Its structure is typical of small market towns in this part of India. An older core of closely built lanes sits near the main road, while newer houses spread outward along the routes to neighbouring villages. Beyond the last buildings, country roads lead across a patchwork of cultivated plots, broken here and there by ponds and seasonal watercourses.
