Al Quţayfah is a town in Rif Dimashq governorate, north-east of Damascus, on the route that runs north towards Homs. It lies in the Qalamoun area, where open plains meet the long ridges of the Anti-Lebanon mountains. With around sixteen thousand residents, it is a local centre for the surrounding villages and farmland.
The map shows a town shaped by roads. Its streets make a fairly regular pattern of blocks, stretched along the main routes that pass through and around it. Beyond the built edge, the land opens into fields and dry ground, crossed by a few straight tracks, while higher terrain rises beyond.
