Aleshtar is the main town of Selseleh County in Lorestan Province, western Iran. It sits on an upland plain within the Zagros Mountains, north of Khorramabad. On a map, the town forms a fairly compact cluster. A handful of main roads carry traffic through the centre, and a denser web of residential streets fills the space between them.
Around the built-up area, the plain opens into agricultural land, and the map's lines thin into field tracks and irrigation channels. Beyond them, the terrain rises into the Zagros ridges that frame this part of Lorestan.
