Alīpur lies on the northern fringe of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, where the city gives way to farmland and the border with Haryana is close. On a map it shows a pattern typical of Delhi's outer villages: an old core of narrow, irregular lanes, newer residential colonies built around it in rough grids, and fields filling the spaces between.
The main highway north from Delhi toward Sonipat and Panipat, part of the historic Grand Trunk Road corridor, passes close by, and much recent growth has followed it with warehouses, markets and housing. Toward the east the land opens into the Yamuna floodplain. The area is in transition, and the map records a moment in its change from village to city.
