Ambāh is a town in Morena district, in the far north of Madhya Pradesh. This is the Chambal region. The Chambal River runs to the north, and over time erosion has carved the land near it into an extensive maze of ravines. On a map, the town is a compact knot of streets surrounded by flat farmland.
Mustard and wheat are common crops on these plains, and the town serves as a market centre for the surrounding villages. Roads leave Ambāh toward Morena and other nearby towns. The fields form a broad, level setting between the town and the broken ground by the river.
