Auderghem is one of the nineteen municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, on its southeastern edge. It sits where the city meets the Sonian Forest, the large beech woodland that covers much of the area towards Wallonia. The priory of Rouge-Cloître and the Château de la Solitude-era estate of Val Duchesse are both inside its borders.
On the map, the forest takes up a large part of the frame as a solid, open mass. Residential streets are arranged along the Boulevard du Souverain and the valley of the Woluwe, and the E411 motorway enters the city in a broad line. Ponds near Rouge-Cloître add small, rounded shapes at the forest edge.

Boulevard du Souverain
This long boulevard follows the Woluwe valley through the commune. It is a clear line on the map, with streets climbing the slopes on either side.
Rouge-Cloître ponds
Near the old priory of Rouge-Cloître, a chain of ponds sits at the edge of the forest. It adds soft, rounded shapes to an otherwise linear pattern.
