Ayodhya Map Poster
Ayodhya lies on the southern bank of the Sarayu River in Uttar Pradesh, next to the older administrative town of Faizabad, which now forms part of the same municipal area. On a map the river curves along the northern edge, the ghats form a line of steps and platforms along its bank, and the old town is a dense web of narrow lanes.
Revered as the birthplace of Rama, the city is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India. The Ram Mandir, consecrated in January 2024, has transformed the scale of visits and prompted new roads, an airport and a rebuilt railway station. Hanuman Garhi and the riverside Ram ki Paidi are among its long-established sacred sites.
