Badnāwar is a town in Dhar district, on the Malwa plateau of western Madhya Pradesh. The landscape is gently rolling upland. On a map the town is a dense central cluster of lanes with newer streets around it and main roads leading toward Dhar, Ratlam and other centres of the region.
Malwa is known for its fertile black soil, and the countryside around Badnāwar is farmed for soybean, wheat and other crops. Small reservoirs and seasonal streams appear among the fields, and the plateau's gentle relief keeps the roads fairly direct. The region has long been a crossroads between Rajasthan, Gujarat and central India, and the routes through the town reflect that role.
