Bareja lies in Ahmedabad district, a short distance south of the state's largest city, on the level alluvial plain of central Gujarat. From above, the town shows a close-knit centre of irregular lanes. Newer roads and housing reach out from that core along the routes that link it with nearby villages and the metropolitan area to the north.
Because the land around it is almost entirely flat, the map is shaped by roads rather than terrain. Farm plots line the approach routes, and small water bodies and field boundaries break up the surrounding countryside. A plan like this shows how a market town ties its agricultural surroundings to a much larger city.
