Basni lies in the dry interior of Rajasthan, in the belt where farmland and scrub start to thin towards the Thar. From above, the town reads as a dense knot of short, irregular lanes, with courtyard houses packed close together. Around it, a looser ring of newer plots and field boundaries fades gradually into open ground.
Roads leave the settlement in a few clear directions and link it to neighbouring towns across a wide, mostly flat landscape. In a region where rain is scarce, the pattern of wells, tanks and cultivated patches has long shaped where people build.
