Bella Vista lies in the San Miguel district, in the north-western part of Greater Buenos Aires. Unlike the strict square grid of the capital, its streets form a looser, more varied pattern. There are blocks of different sizes and diagonal roads, and large properties with gardens and trees give much of the area a green, open character.
The town grew from summer houses and country retreats of families from the city, and some of that spaciousness is still visible from above. A railway line and main avenues cross the area, carrying commuters toward the capital. Around them the residential streets spread out, mixing older houses, newer developments and patches of greenery.
To the north the land slopes gently toward the valley of the Reconquista River, and the large open expanse of the Campo de Mayo military grounds lies close by.
