Bokajān lies in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, close to the border with Nagaland and a short distance from Dimapur. The town sits where the Assam plains meet the hills of this part of the district. On a map it is a modest, elongated settlement strung along its roads and the railway line that passes through.
The town is known above all for its cement factory, set up by the Cement Corporation of India, which drew on limestone from the surrounding hills and made Bokajān an industrial centre in an otherwise rural district. Around it lie villages, farmland and forest, crossed by the roads that link the town to Dimapur and the rest of Assam.
