Brampton Map Poster
Brampton lies north-west of Toronto in the Region of Peel, and its map still follows the logic of rural Ontario's survey lines. The main roads trace the nineteenth-century concession grid, running in long straight lines at regular intervals. The land between them is filled with curving residential streets, crescents and cul-de-sacs typical of post-war and modern suburbs.
The valleys of Etobicoke Creek and the Credit River cut across this pattern on their way south towards Lake Ontario. Their wooded corridors survive as long green ribbons through the housing and give the map its main irregular lines. Highway 410 runs north to south through the eastern half. The historic downtown sits around the crossing of Main and Queen streets, known as the Four Corners.
Within a few decades the city grew from a small county town into one of the largest cities in Canada, and it is known for its diverse population. It was once called the Flowertown of Canada because of its many commercial greenhouses. A Brampton map poster shows that growth clearly: a compact old core surrounded by kilometres of newer streets.
