Brodnica Map Poster & Print
Brodnica lies on the Drwęca River in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship of northern Poland. The town was founded under the Teutonic Order in the late thirteenth century, and its medieval plan survives clearly on the map: a regular old town around a rectangular market square, the line of former walls still traceable at its edge and the river curving past on one side.
At the edge of the old town stands the brick castle built by the Teutonic Knights, whose tall octagonal tower still dominates the skyline. Parts of the town gates also remain, among them the Chełmno Gate. Beyond the historic centre, residential districts spread out along the roads, and within a short distance the country opens into forests and lakes.
Those lakes are the reason many visitors come. Brodnica gives its name to the Brodnica Lake District and the Brodnica Landscape Park, a region of glacial lakes, rivers and woodland.
