Brzeg is in Opole Voivodeship, on the left bank of the Oder River. Its map has a very clear structure: an old town with a regular grid of streets and a central market square, surrounded by a ring of parks and promenades built on the site of the former fortifications. The river runs along the northern edge.
The town's most famous building is its Piast castle. Its Renaissance courtyard and decorated gatehouse have earned it the nickname "Silesian Wawel." On the map, the castle sits within the old town's grid, near the green belt, while bridges carry roads across the Oder to the northern bank.
