Camacan is in the south of Bahia, in the hilly inland region long associated with cocoa farming. The landscape around the town is green and uneven, with ridges, streams and patches of Atlantic Forest mixed with plantations. On a map, the town fills a stretch of lower ground, and its streets adapt to the slopes around it.
The street plan is compact and practical. There are a few main roads, a central area with a denser grid, and residential neighbourhoods climbing the hillsides where the terrain allows. Roads leave town in winding routes, following valleys towards neighbouring towns and the farms scattered across the hills.
