Cedar Park lies northwest of Austin, where the flatter blackland prairie gives way to the limestone hills of the Texas Hill Country. It grew rapidly from a small community into a large suburb, and its map shows that growth clearly: subdivisions of curving streets and cul-de-sacs, commercial strips along the main highways, and patches of undeveloped land and greenbelt between them.
US 183 and the 183A toll road run north to south through the city, forming its main spine. Brushy Creek and other waterways cut across the terrain, and parks and trails follow their valleys. The city is also home to an arena that hosts the Texas Stars ice hockey team, one of the better-known local landmarks.
