Chacao Map Poster & Print
Chacao is one of the five municipalities of metropolitan Caracas and covers only a few square kilometres. It sits in the long east-west valley of the capital. The steep green wall of the Ávila, also known as Waraira Repano, rises to the north, and the Guaire River and main highway run along the south. From above, the streets are packed into this band, with wide avenues crossing a tight grid.
Chacao has long been one of the city's main commercial and residential districts. Neighbourhoods such as Altamira, El Rosal and Los Palos Grandes fall within it. Plaza Francia in Altamira, with its tall obelisk, is a well-known landmark. The Chacao map poster shows how much city fits into this narrow strip.
The contrast between built-up blocks and the empty mountain slope is striking on a monochrome print. Streets stop abruptly where the Ávila begins, and the mountain's national park fills the top of the frame with open space. Along the bottom, the highway and the river channel draw long horizontal lines that balance the composition.
