Charām lies in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, in the folded mountain country of the Zagros in southwestern Iran. The map shows a modest town on a patch of lower ground, with ridges and slopes rising nearby and giving the surroundings a strong sense of relief.
The streets form a compact pattern, denser in the centre and looser at the edges, where the land begins to climb. Roads lead through the valleys to neighbouring settlements, and watercourses follow the folds of the terrain. Cultivated plots sit wherever the land is flat enough.
