Kāzerūn lies in Fars province in southwest Iran, in a valley between the ranges of the Zagros, on the historic route from Shiraz down to the Persian Gulf. On a map, the city stretches along the valley floor, with long mountain ridges running in parallel on either side and giving the terrain a strongly directional shape.
The town is a mix of old, tighter streets and newer, more regular districts. Around it lie farmland and orchards, and the region is known for its citrus. Lake Parishan lies to the southeast. In black and white, the city, the valley and the ridges make a clear, elongated composition.
A Kāzerūn map poster centres on an area with deep historical roots. Nearby are the ruins of Bishapur, a city founded by the Sasanian king Shapur I, along with rock reliefs carved into the gorge walls. The map places the modern town inside that wider landscape.
