Chinnalapatti is a town in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, located on the main road that connects Dindigul with Madurai. On a map the town forms a compact settlement on each side of this route, with narrow residential streets turning off the main road into closely built neighbourhoods. Tanks and small reservoirs, common across the region, show as rounded water shapes among the fields.
The town is well known across South India for its handloom saris, particularly the cotton and silk saris that carry its name. Weaving has long shaped daily life here, and many homes double as workshops. Nearby lies Gandhigram, home to a rural institute founded in the spirit of Gandhian village development, which adds a campus of its own to the surrounding map.
