Three former villages
Pâturages, Wasmes and Warquignies each keep a recognisable centre. On the poster they show as separate clusters joined by continuous rows of houses.

Colfontaine Map Poster & Print
Colfontaine lies in Hainaut, just southwest of Mons, in the Borinage coal basin. It was formed in 1977 by merging Pâturages, Wasmes and Warquignies. On a map the town has several centres rather than one. Streets run in long ribbons along old roads, and between them are small squares, dense terraced blocks and patches of woodland.
Coal mining shaped the whole area, and the street pattern still shows the growth of workers' housing along routes that linked pits and villages. Vincent van Gogh lived and preached in Wasmes around 1879. Those Borinage years came before he committed to painting, and the house associated with his stay is still a place of interest.
A Colfontaine map poster captures that joined-up, uneven pattern. Terraced streets curve and branch, and old village centres appear as small knots. Green spaces fill the edges where former mining land and woods remain. It is a map of a working landscape, and it will mean something to anyone with Borinage roots.

Ribbon streets
Long streets lined with terraced houses follow old roads across the hilly ground. They give the map a flowing, branching look instead of a grid.
Wooded margins
Patches of forest and green land around the town break up the housing. They show the transition from the mining villages to the countryside.

Colfontaineを選ぶ理由
想いが詰まった地図
Many Belgian families trace their roots to the Borinage villages. A map of Colfontaine brings Pâturages, Wasmes and Warquignies onto one sheet, which makes it a considered gift for relatives who left or for those who stayed.
Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line. Naming a former village or adding a family date works well.
