Contramaestre Map Poster & Print
Contramaestre lies in the interior of Santiago de Cuba province, in the rolling farmland of eastern Cuba. The town takes its name from the Contramaestre river, which flows past it and shows on the map as a winding line through the valley. The main highway across the east of the island passes through the town, and so does the railway.
The street plan is typical of Cuban provincial towns: a fairly regular grid of blocks around a central area, gradually loosening toward the edges where houses give way to fields. The surrounding countryside has traditionally been devoted to sugar cane and other crops, and roads fan out from the town to the smaller settlements around it.

Carretera Central
Cuba's main east–west highway runs through the town. On the map it is the dominant straight line, linking Contramaestre to Bayamo and Santiago.
