Corquín is in Copán Department in western Honduras, a mountainous region known for coffee growing. From above, the town sits in a valley surrounded by steep ground. The centre has a small grid of streets around a central square, but the pattern bends and breaks as it meets the slopes.
The surrounding landscape gives the map most of its character. Contour lines and ridges rise on all sides, rivers and streams run through narrow valleys, and a winding road connects the town to the rest of the department. Farms and coffee plots cover the hillsides in small, irregular parcels.
