Crailsheim is in the northeast of Baden-Württemberg, in the Hohenlohe region, on the banks of the Jagst River. On a map, the Jagst runs through the town in gentle curves, lined by green space. The centre is on its bank, and the town has grown out from there in all directions onto the surrounding plateau.
Crailsheim was very badly damaged at the end of the Second World War, and much of the centre was rebuilt afterwards. The street pattern follows the old layout in places, but the buildings are mostly post-war. The town is also an important railway junction, and several lines meet here. Their tracks and sidings form a large, clearly visible feature on the map.
