Danta is a small town in Rajasthan, in the north-west of India, set in the semi-arid country of the Shekhawati region. Its map shows the typical form of an older north Indian town: a dense cluster of narrow lanes and closely packed houses at the centre, with a few wider roads leading out toward neighbouring towns and the surrounding fields.
The landscape around Danta is dry for much of the year, with low hills of the Aravalli range in the wider area and farmland that depends on the monsoon. The town grew as a local centre for this rural district, and its irregular street pattern reflects gradual growth over a long period rather than a single plan.
