Dasheng is a town within the municipality of Chongqing, in the hilly eastern part of the Sichuan Basin. Its map reflects the terrain. Few streets run straight for long, and the built-up area stretches along the valleys and gentler slopes where building is easiest. The result is an irregular, elongated shape rather than a neat block, with roads bending to follow the lie of the land.
The countryside around the town is a patchwork of low ridges, small reservoirs and cultivated terraces, typical of rural Chongqing. On a black-and-white print, the winding roads and field edges create a dense, almost contour-like texture, and the scattered ponds appear as small solid shapes. The pattern is organic and quiet, very different from the high-rise density of central Chongqing.
